Whether you liked Steve Irwin or hated him,.... I have nothing but absolute praise for the way he has built the Australia Zoo and the way the staff interact with the animals, as well as the amazing enclosures.
Also the lizards and birds that have free run of the zoo and are always scuttling past your feet and provided plenty of entertainment for the kids in between exhibits. There were volunteers and staff everywhere, many of them just sitting in the exhibits with the animals (including the tigers!) either patting the animals, or just being there.
There was always someone with an animal out on the paths ready to interact with us, including echidnas, cockies, eagles, macaws, snakes, crocodiles etc.
The exhibits were kept immaculately clean, and were so well kept with greenery and running water (depending on the animal). It was a huge place with way more walking required than I was expecting, but it was well worth it....A great day that resulted in 3 very tired, but very happy kids.
