Bondi Beach

15th October

It was still pretty cold, windy and miserable in the aftermath of what has been reported as one of the worst storms Sydney has seen, so with pools being a no-go zone, we headed to the beach instead. Not just any beach, this was Bondi Beach! The kids had seen it enough times on TV to know about it, so they were looking forward to seeing all the beach babes and the life saver glamour boys watching everyone through their binoculars. After the stress of navigating my way through Sydney streets, we arrived to 40-50 knot winds and 15 degree weather and absolutely zero people on the beach. the waves were enormous and crashing all over the place, and apart from the wind, it was amazing to be standing there and watching Mother Nature unleashing her force against the East Coast and anything nearby. Car parking on the beach was well set out with over 350 car parks available, but at $7/hr every day of the year, we chose to look for the free ones in the back streets. We walked along the foreshore up to the tidal pool which was being absolutely pounded by the waves, and then headed back to Lane Cove. I had thought that crossing Sydney at lunch time (albeit through the tunnel under most of the city) was a bit of a stress, but I can tell you that taking a wrong turn on the way home at 4:30pm and ending up right smack in the middle of the city was a whole lot more "interesting" . How people do this every day of the week is way beyond my comprehension. Give me Adelaide traffic any day... Even the crappy drivers, crappy light changes and the great one way freeways.
