We booked online last night for a horrendously expensive tour through the Otway Forest on the Eco Zip line. It was an hours drive away though a very windy section of road, but turned out to be an amazing experience and well worth the cost (??? ).
We were all harnessed up and flying through the tree canopy and having a few learning sessions on the types of trees, their magnificent size and age, as well as the thrill of flying along at up to 45km/hr.
After the Zip line experience, we wondered around the Canopy walk which was absolutely amazing in itself. Huge structures and platforms that lifted us 50 metres above the forest floor, and in some places we were still nowhere near the top of the trees.
Afterwards, we headed a little further on into the Otway national park and went for a walk to some amazing waterfalls. Again, luscious green forest ( who would have thought this low down in Victoria?) and some spectacular waterfalls.
We were pretty well spent after this, so we came back to the park where it was still 34 degrees and quite windy, but in less than hour the wind stopped and soon after the temperature started to fall to a much more comfortable level. With the cooler temperature, out came all the kangaroos again. It is a really weird sensation sneaking out the back of the van to empty the bladder of the last handful of drinks and to have anything up to 30 kangaroos less than 5 metres away watching... (and I swear they were smiling...)
Tonight I have realised that this is our last Friday away from home, I only have 1 week of wearing elastic waist shorts / trackies, and that I have perhaps not been as good with my diet as I had planned on... ( well, thought about for 2 minutes before leaving home and making sure I had enough drinks and biscuits packed).
I think I have a tough couple of months coming up when we get back home....
