We were in no rush today, so we stopped in at a few shops and at Bunnings for some water filtration stuff, before travelling for a whole 40 minutes to Newcastle. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I had expected it to be a bit of a dirty town because of the huge coal shipping happening in the local waters, but it was actually very pleasant along the rivers edge and the beach front. As it is a Saturday today, there was absolutely zero parking possibilities for our car and caravan, but it was a very easy place to drive around while we were looking for possible parking sites. We ended up returning on our original route and were extremely lucky to have a spot open up in front of us. We had a quick walk around, made lunch and sat on the rivers edge watching the ships go by, before heading off for another hours travel to a place called Mannering Park, which is a Big4 park right on the lower edge of Lake Macquarie. We had some visitors in the form of a family of ducklings while setting up, but they pretty quickly got scared off by all the kids in the park chasing them on their bikes and wondering why they wont stay where they are. Only really have the 1 full day here tomorrow before heading off again on Monday morning for Lane Cove, which will be our base for exploring Sydney for 4-5 days.
