The weather is getting much nicer, yet still has quite a cold biting wind at times.
We went for a walk across the lake at the main street and through the scrub to the Entrance, where there were thousands of birds chasing schools of fish, accompanied by a few seals. Beautifully pristine waters as far as the eye could see. We then decided to walk back along the sand along 90 Mile Beach, rather than taking the track back, and discovered that the sand was in most places very soft and we were sinking below our ankles. It was a tough walk, but like the true troupers we are.... we made it. Halfway back we saw the pipe spewing out sand from the dredging in the lakes, which I reckon was probably the main reason for the sand being soft....... ( I may be wrong - it has happened once before - but it seems like a good reason to me.)
The afternoon was spent exploring the local shell store where they had 60 years of collections from the ocean. We parted with our hard earned money, but I am still not convinced that displays of shells and a few aquariums of fish and seahorses was worth it. I did actually find it all interesting... just not worth the entrance fee.
We spent the afternoon enjoying the fantastic weather that kept alternating between jumper-on and jumper-off temperatures, due to the wind chill factor. The kids played on the sand in front of our van until tea.
Then there was the sunset.....
