Lane Cove and Sydney

14/10/14

It was surprisingly mild and decent weather this morning, which was completely opposite to the forecast, so we continued with our plans and walked up to the train station and headed into Sydney. The excitement of the kids just travelling on a train underground was fun to watch, but that soon faded to grizzle when we started walking the streets looking at shops, monuments and parks. We headed down to Circular Quay and took all the obligatory photos with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the background, then decided to take the bus back up to the train station to come home. It was now getting very overcast with light drizzle which looked like it was ready to burst into full rain at any time.
And then it happened. The thunder and lightning started and the heavens opened up. Along with the wind, it was looking like a scary and long night waiting for parts of the van to blow away at anytime. This park is down in a bit of a hollow and fortunately escaped most of the wind - morning news reports say that 110km/hr winds were recorded at the airport, but I think we wouldn't have got over 40k, except for maybe 1-2 gusts.
Morning broke, and we were still upright and generally dry....
