Today turned out to be one of our longer driving days for a while, and not just the distance. It was almost exactly a 300km trip, but it was also all mountains for 90% of the trip, which gave us an average speed of only around 70-75km/hr I think.
We stopped at a great little off the road parking bay at a place called Drummer Creek, but chose not to do the 4km State Forest walk on offer due to the slowness of the trip.
As we got around 20km shy of Lakes Entrance, the clouds had moved in and the wind was quite gusty..... and it got worse.... and worse.
About 8pm I decided I wasn't going to get any sleep if the annex and awning stayed up with the wind now blowing so hard that I thought we were all going to get blown back into NSW, so it all got taken down and stuffed into the car for the night in the hope the van was still upright in the morning so that I can have a second chance at getting a safe erection.
By the morning, it was sensational.... the wind had all but stopped, the sun was out and it was actually getting slightly warm.
We took off for a walk around town and checked out this quaint little town and spent the rest of the day doing tourist stuff including a bit of pelican feeding, the odd playground visit and not really a lot more.... just the way a holiday should be.
