Yesterday was a simple day of slowly (very very slowly) packing up the van and travelling a huge 130km down to Brisbane. I mapped out a route through the state forests to avoid the mundane-ness of travelling the Bruce Hwy again, and we set off. What I then discovered, was that Google Maps doesn't show in its simplest form a 4km section of our drive was a 16% gradient up through the mountains. This is the equivalent of an ant hauling a small dog, or one of my kids piggy backing me - it is just not something that would normally be attempted! My fuel usage gauge shot up to 99.99 litres per 100km for this section, and I suspect if it could have produced higher numbers, it would have. Whilst the car was struggling and I was carefully watching the temperature gauge climbing about as slowly as we were, it was an awesome view through another example of Queensland's fantastic forests - and believe me, at 40kmh, I had plenty of time to look at my surroundings. Once we had conquered Mt Mee, the descent was just as nice. Towards the bottom, one of the kids highlights was finding a snake coiled up in the roof trusses of a public toilet we stopped at..... unlike Tracy who kept a safe 20 metre distance from it.
Today (Friday) we set off to visit Redcliffe. I have vague memories of visiting my grandmother and Aunty here at least 25+ years ago, but it sure has changed since then.
It is Tyler's birthday today as well, so today was all about him.... unlike the other 364 days of the year when it is all about me....... All he wanted was to go swimming, have hot chips for lunch, Tuna Mornay for tea and to sit in the 7th seat of the car for the road trip. Of course we added to that list with presents, cake and ice-cream.
The swimming lagoon was as amazing as the others we have seen up the East coast of Australia - this one was salt filtered instead of chlorinated, but once again, right on the beach front, amazing weather and perfect for the kids swimming.
We spent the next 2 hours messing around, with lots of photos taken as per below. Looking over these now, the photos of me remind me of the breaching Humpback whales from the other week ...... I am definitely starting my diet tomorrow - and no you are not going to see those pictures!
Another fantastic sunny Qld day........ I reckon we are going to look for some houses tomorrow. Love this place.
Photos below are all about the kids. Their smiles today were priceless. And that made our day well worth any fines I am going to incur for using the Toll road without an E-Tag.
