Tamborine Mountain

27th September

The Rain Forest regions around here continue to impress us. So much that we drove an hour and a half back up North to go to the Tamborine National Park region today.
there were so many choices of walks, but we could only fit in a couple so went through the Curtis Falls first up. These forests are nestled amongst the little towns where one minute you are browing through the shops, then 50 metres later you are immersed in a world of green palms, towering trees and masses of wildlife.
We then took off to find the Glow Worms cave that we had heard about. We found the car-park that the Information and Visitor centre had told us about and a nice place to have lunch but I wanted to find this Glow Worm cave first and book us in. The info centre lady said it was 50m down the road and that there was some Open Gardens to see as well if we wanted. Well....20 minutes later and what seemed to be 3km up and down hills, there was still no sign of the $%#! caves. Tyler and I agreed to "run" back to the car, find the map and drive there, While Tracy, Dylan and Kayla strolled slowly back. As it turns out, we were about 3 minutes walk short of getting there, but it was hidden out the back of a winery we could see, so feeling rather annoyed, we drove in and checked them out. Fascinating info, but no photos allowed.
we headed back to our original park afterwards, had lunch and then took off across the road into another rain forest called Witches Fall. This one starts out quite dry and bushy, but gradually merges into towering trees and huge palms all inter-mingled and causing the air temperature to drop by about 5 degrees once below the canopy. The trees in here were Ginormous... and full of huge boulders which the kids couldn't resist climbing over. Some of the trees would have been 10 metres circumference and 250m tall - Kids claimed it was the Faraway tree!
We had tea at my cousins Lynette and hubby Richard, with their kids Emma and Jacob, as well as Colleen and Bob. Saturday night pizza is always a great way to finish off a week - yum.
Tomorrow is a clean up and preparation day. We are finally departing on Monday morning and heading down to Sapphire Beach which is about 5 minutes short of Coffs Harbour.
Reality is setting in that within another 1-2 weeks, we will be crossing the border into Victoria.... that just seems scarily too close to home, too soon
