On Tuesday we packed up and headed south into Tathra - the last NSW coastal stop on our trip. We had planned on stopping at a place called Bermagui, but as per other times, had heard about Tathra - so here we are.
For a place that has a population of just over 1600 people (half living in absolute mansions that I am really envious of), it is obvious that it is a real tourist town when you find 4 caravan parks in the space of 1km along the beachfront. The road into the town was magnificent as well, winding through farmland, often turning into a single lane bridge over a lake or creek entrance, before winding through a state forest for the last 15km.
This stop has been treated as though it was a standard holiday.... we are no longer running around looking at cramming in as many sights as we can, rather we are just being caravanners and sitting by the pool, or strolling along the beach, or drinking ( or all 3 in my case...).
We did go for a look back at Bermagui and found a magnificent rock pool down the base of some cliffs, but the wind was blowing at least 60km/hr, so that visit was unfortunately cut short.
Yesterday, I took the kids down to the skate park on the foreshore where they spent a few hours polishing their scooter skills. Unfortunately we got interrupted when another 4 year old at the park tried to take a bite out of his handle bars and ended up with a 1cm deep gash from his mouth to his nose. With his mum holding his mouth together, I organised an ambulance for the little fella and then the kids and I headed back home discussing better food choices than metal handle bars.
This morning after my usual exercise plan (well, giving my arteries a workout with bacon, eggs and mushies on toast...), we took off for a walk of about 3km through the state forest area behind us, where there are a heap of mountain bike trails.
It was warm again by the time we got back, so we went for a swim for a couple of hours before lunch. Not long after, Dylan starting complaining of an irritation just above his ear, and to our horror, we found a tick had its head buried in his skull and obviously quite lost with all the empty space inside..... We managed to get it out in its entirety, but were still a bit shell shocked for a few hours later wondering what it could have ended up like if it had got really stuck, or worse infected. I reckon we were all just damn lucky that Dylan has a massive head and the tick was quite obviously lost inside and trying to back out.....
