Springbrook

22nd September

Yesterday Tracy took off early with Colleen to the markets at Pottsville, while I settled into an hour of homework with the kids. We then all headed down the coast to meet them and Tracy and I had a good power walk along the beach while the kids played on the beach under the wonderful supervision of Colleen. Our highlight of that was staring out to the crashing waves and beyond, only to see a pod of humpback whales breaching fully and seeming to have an amazing time. The beach at Pottsville is on the Eastern most edge of extinct volcano Mt Warning, and the higher tip of the shoreline can give some good finds of Pumice. This is a very light and porous volcanic rock formed from the solidifying lava. Not sure if it was supposed to, but a few samples somehow found there way into the glove box of my car for a bit of show and tell if we decide to ever come home.
Today we decided to go north a little bit and headed to a rainforest region in a place called Springbrook. Luckily the weather played its part and we spent the whole day in showery rain, climbing through walks along the cliff edges and getting some amazing views at both the top and bottom of cascading waterfalls. Pictures will never be able to show the true awesomeness of what we saw, but they may just help jolt some memories.
The kids took great delight in seeing the tree in the first picture, pointing out that it was the first "boy" tree that they had seen. Tracy took great delight in finding a "girl" tree, but I didn't manage to get a photo of that.

We got home mid-afternoon and headed straight back out to the movies, thanks to an offer of baby sitting. Saw a movie called One Hundred Foot Journey -about an Indian family setting up a restauraunt directly across the street in France from an existing place. Certainly not a movie I would have chosen, but I actually really enjoyed it....
