Port Stephens

7th October

Just for something different, we changed our plans again last night and set sail for Nelson Bay in the Port Stephens district, instead of heading to Lake Macquarie as planned. Tracy scoured through the WikiCamps app on the iPad which has been our bible when it comes to choosing a nice place to stay. Even then, we ended up at a place called One Mile Beach. The park here is pretty amazing. It has a brilliant new pool area, jumping pillow, huge games room and backs onto great big sand dunes that open up into another great beach. It appears we are one of about 6 people staying here at the moment, which as I stated to Tracy, will hopefully give me time to sit and relax and let all the grumpiness flow away.
On Wednesday the showers started about 8am, and then never disappeared. This is the first full rainy day we have had in 7 weeks of holidays, so we were at a bit of a loss. It was quite cool as well today for the 1st time (max 19 deg), so we packed into the car and headed off to the Hunter Valley for some wine tasting and lunch. The wineries up here are huge, and all seem to cater for functions and meals with wine sales almost fading back into insignificance. We had a nice and semi-expensive lunch and tried various wines, but we both came home thinking that SA wines are better! That didn't stop us spending a small fortune on some bottles to help us through the rest of the trip though!
